April 18, 2023, 7:00 p.m., White Hall 110
Join the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies at 7:00 p.m. in White Hall 110 for a panel discussion on memory and distortion pertaining to the Holocaust.
Drawing on a variety of disciplinary lenses, Emory faculty Dr. Alicja Podbielska and Dr. Ofra Yeglin will reflect, in conversation with Judith London Evans Director of the Tam Institute for Jewish Studies Miriam Udel, on how the memory of the Holocaust is encoded in history and culture in Europe, Israel, and the Americas. The panel will discuss questions such as:
• What are the stakes of studying the Holocaust in the twenty-first century?
• How is that study changing with greater historical distance from the events?
• How is Holocaust memory enlisted in political projects and sometimes distorted in the process?
This event is co-sponsored by the Office of Spiritual and Religious Life, the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Emory Hillel.
